Sense Networks Launches CabSense for iPhone and Android to Help New Yorkers find Available Cabs
Hailing a Cab? There’s an App for That Too
NEW YORK — MARCH 31, 2010 – Sense Networks, Inc. today released a new iPhone and Android Phone application that is poised to revolutionize the way New Yorkers find—and hail—taxicabs.
The free mobile application, CabSense, uses New York City taxi location data to help users find the best street corners near them to catch an available taxi at any given day and time. It does so by using complex machine learning algorithms trained on over 90 million taxi trips to rate each corner in the city from zero stars (lowest probability to find an open cab) to five stars (highest probability to find an open cab). Once opened, CabSense displays the user’s current location and the respective star ratings of several nearby corners.
CabSense also features:
- Radar View - A color-coded tool that points users to the highest rated corner nearby
- Time Slider – Users can plan ahead and view the best corners to find an available taxi at a later time and day
- Taxi Hailer - Once users find an available taxi, they can simply shake the phone and it will whistle for them
Finally, in areas of the city where there are typically few available taxis, CabSense finds and recommends nearby car services, even providing an option to call a livery cab with a single touch. Users can download CabSense for free at www.cabsense.com and the application is available from Apple’s iPhone Application Store or Google’s Android Marketplace.
CabSense was built on Sense Networks’ powerful Macrosense platform that uses machine learning to transform billions of location data points into meaningful context. CabSense, soon to be open-sourced, is a unique demonstration of one of the many ways in which developers will be able to leverage the Macrosense platform.
